Pockets of Innovation

CLIENT: East Metro STEAM Partnership

PROJECT: Why is hands-on-learning such a powerful way to bring subjects to life for kids?  MetroEast was hired to do a series of videos called “Pockets of Innovation” showcasing 3 different S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) focused summer educational camps, to show the transformational nature of hands-on learning opportunities. APPROACH: This video in the series is focused on MetroEast’s own Rockwood DIY video camp for youth.  S.T.E.A.M. Education is known to create an integrated, innovative, learning environment in every classroom.  In this mini-documentary we followed youth through the process of taking a video from concept to completion, learning camera operation, composition and editing.  We employed short interviews with the youth and behind the scenes b-roll to demonstrate how kids are excited and engaged with project based learning. We utilized scripted lines with educational partners, in the studio, to convey the concept of what S.T.E.A.M. is, as a short open to put the videos in context. RESULTS: The message of S.T.E.A.M. was distributed widely online and on our channels. And the youth loved the opportunity to see another facet of video production: our professional video setup as we captured them taking part in the camp.
