Government

Public. Education. Government.

Supporting transparency in government is a founding principle for MetroEast Community Media. There is a prepared agenda for each meeting. The public is welcome to attend and participate in the public comment portion of the meeting. We have a strong commitment to supporting our democracy and we provide over 500 hours of coverage of over 150 government meetings per year, for a wide range of government entities in East Multnomah County. These meetings are broadcast on MetroEast's Government cable channel (Comcast 330/30, Ziply 38) as well as streamed online.

Government Affairs Council

We also cover the Government Affairs Council which is put on by the Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center. Like the school boards, the Government Affairs Council is not technically a municipality.

Business and Leaders Luncheon  are hosted on the third Tuesday of each month, which deals with a wide range of issues that impact businesses in East Multnomah County. These too, are not carried live, but rather recorded for later re-broadcast.

A strong part of MetroEast Community Media's mission is to serve our municipalities including: Gresham, Fairview, Troutdale, Wood Village, and Multnomah County.

  • Gresham first and third Tuesday of the month

For Gresham, we cover the City Council regular business meetings, which occur on the first and third Tuesday of each month. They deal with issues facing the City and have a prepared agenda for each meeting.

We also cover the Gresham Planning Commission, which deals primarily with land use issues as well as code approvals/variances and other related topics. These occur on the second and fourth Monday of each month. The same issues regarding public participation apply here as well.

In addition, the Gresham City Council will convene as the Gresham Redevelopment Commission when dealing with Rockwood Urban Renewal issues, in which the same group of officials  act as the Commission on urban renewal and planning in the Rockwood district of Gresham. These occur on the third Tuesday of the month, immediately following adjournment of the City's regular business meeting. The same issues regarding public participation apply here as with Council.

  • Troutdale second and fourth Tuesday of the month

For Troutdale, we also cover the City Council and the Planning Commission meetings, which act virtually identically as Gresham insofar as the City Council covers City issues and the Planning Commission ideals with land use and code issues. The City Council meetings occur on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, while the Planning Commission occurs on the third Wednesday of each month. Occasionally, the City Council will hold a joint City Council/Urban Renewal Agency meeting; this  is the same body of people, just convening as a separate Council, much as Gresham does. In the case of Troutdale, they are dealing with the "TRIP" property ( Troutdale Reynolds Industrial Park). Because the property is owned by Metro, Shirely Craddick from the Metro Council joins the Troutdale City Council for these meetings. The TRIP property is a 700-acre former brownfield which was revitalized by the Port and other partners to become a job center.
