Mobile Media Innovation Lab

Based on community feedback, that many members struggle to access the programming we offer onsite, we are launching the Mobile Media Innovation Lab in Summer 2021!

The Mobile Media Innovation Lab (a modified Ford Transit Van), will bring media programming including

  • Filmmaking
  • Podcasting
  • Digital Storytelling
  • Virtual Reality Media Creation
  • Video Game Coding and Design

To east Multnomah county students! Families will see the van at community and public events during Summer and virtually in classrooms during the school year!

We hope the Mobile Media Lab will allow us to serve greater numbers of people, increase understanding and foster healthy relationships with media technology, and overcome the transportation barriers which prevent many communities of color from fully participating in these experiences.

We have received generous funding from the Mt Hood Cable Regulatory Commission, the Collins Foundation and The Carol and Velma Saling Foundation to make the lab a reality.

Timeline of Mobile Media Lab:

  • 2019: Community assessments, forums and input clearly showed transportation as a barrier to workshops and classes.
  • Fall 2020:  Respond to teacher feedback, acquired Macbook Pros, iPads and DSLR cameras to ensure that all students can participate.
  • 2020-2021: outfitting the van with power outlets, a liftgate, a side-mounted projector.
  • Summer 2021: See you at the parks! Begin socially distanced summer events at parks and other public spaces.
