There are countless stay-at-home moms who are financially dependent on their husbands. Imagine trying to escape an abusive partner but not having the money to access legal advice to start your life over. Thanks to St. Andrew Legal Clinic, low income individuals can hire private attorneys to help them through one of the most difficult periods of their lives. We produced a documentary that spotlights one of St. Andrew Legal Clinic’s clients (Sandra) and allows her to share her inspiring story. Our video was created to help St. Andrew raises money and promotes their services.
APPROACH:
Going into production, we knew Sandra had gone through a traumatic experience. We shared parts of ourselves during the interview to build a rapport and in return, she opened up to our crew about some of the more difficult moments in her life and allowed us into her home to film intimate settings like her bedroom, backyard, and kitchen. Our interview transcended into a genuine bond. This uncovering helped us tell an honest, raw and impactful story. Our approach prioritized balancing her comfort with our production goals.
RESULTS:
Our video helped our clients' annual fundraiser break a new record! Here is an excerpt from an email from St. Andrew Legal Clinic: “We showed the video last night, and the response was beyond even our wildest hopes. You could feel the energy in the room, as 200 people stopped eating, drinking and talking to focus on Sandra’s story. The special appeal set a record of more than $45,000, beating the previous record by almost $10,000.” For more information go to salcgroup.org
