Gresham, OR — MetroEast Community Media, a leading nonprofit organization in the field of media production and digital literacy, is announcing the departure of CEO Martin Jones after three years of repositioning the 35-year-old community media center. Jones embraced the boards’ ambitious transition plans to diversify the organization’s revenue during a time of significant decreases in cable franchise revenue from cord cutters. Jones also oversaw the significant expansion of MetroEast as a highly sought after production services provider for nonprofits and government agencies in need of professional video creative. Board president Shannon Chisom added, “Marty’s contributions to our programs, members, and staff will benefit MetroEast for a long time. His focus around our equity and inclusion work in the Rockwood Community has been transformative. I am pleased the content produced under his leadership has been invited to the White House and received three Emmy nominations. I wish him the very best in his next adventure.”
Jones shared, “it has been my greatest pleasure to have worked with the stellar team of dedicated media and nonprofit professionals at MetroEast. I am proud of our significant increases in earned income, our bold and exciting rebranding, award-winning productions, and our exponential growth as a recipient of several major grants from foundations in support of our work in Rockwood. Because of these grants, we have been able to serve over 700 Rockwood residents, many of whom are immigrants and refugees who are hungry for access to become digital citizens.” The primary focus of MetroEast’s work in Rockwood is digital equity and inclusion for all East Multnomah County residents. MetroEast provides access to broadband connectivity, computers, and training in the heart of one of the most diverse communities in Oregon.
The MetroEast Leadership Team will manage the transition with Head of Production John Lugton serving as the point person.
