January 2017 Partnership Spotlight: CAL and Latino Network

High School sports are a big deal in East County. At MetroEast, our most recent involvement has been our video coverage of both girls and boys varsity basketball games in the Mt. Hood Conference league.  Led by Staff Producer, Keith Thomas, we are now in our seventh year producing quality sports programming for viewing on our cable channels as well as the internet. Each year Keith chooses several of the key match-ups between local high schools on which to focus. The 2017 schedule is as follows:

Friday, January 13: David Douglas @ Gresham

Friday, January 20: Oregon City @ Sam Barlow

Friday, January 27: Centennial @ Reynolds

On each of those nights we will be taping both a girls and a boys game, back-to-back. Besides Keith at the helm, we have two experienced volunteer announcers, Jerry “JP” Peterson on the play-by-play and Lindsay Strothers on the color commentary. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. It takes many volunteers to crew a production like basketball. This year we are proud to have student volunteers from both the Center for Advanced Learning and Latino Network to assist in covering this game. Other more experienced MetroEast volunteers will also be on the job filling the various crew positions and helping to mentor the new kids.

Watch for MetroEast Sports coverage of Mt. Hood Conference basketball starting in January. Let us know what you think! Local sports coverage is just one of the ways MetroEast continues to be a resource to the community.

Happy New Year!
