August 2010 Workshop Dates

Registration for August classes begins at 9:00 am on Monday, August 2nd. Please call 503.667.8848 ext. 350 to register. Class sizes are limited, and registration is first-come-first-served.

MetroEast Orientation

An introduction to MetroEast Community Media and a prerequisite for all classes. Students will learn the history and goals of community media, tour the MetroEast facility, and learn about workshops and policy. Please call to pre-register for this free workshop.
Location: Main Conference Room

Basic Editing - Part 1

Prerequisite: MetroEast Orientation
Students will learn the basics of editing, graphics and visual effects in this 3 part series. MetroEast uses Final Cut Pro for all editing. Part 1 covers shot selection, uploading clips to disk, arranging order of clips.

Basic Editing - Part 2

Covers the graphics and titling program.

Basic Editing - Part 3

Covers controlling audio, adding transitions, recording the finished show.

Basic Studio Production

Prerequisite: MetroEast Orientation
Learn multi-camera production in our 3-camera studio. 2 part class. This class is required to produce your own studio show, or to volunteer as crew on productions. For more advanced training, MetroEast offers several classes on a once-per-quarter basis: Studio Switcher, Studio Audio, Character Generator, and Studio Directing. These classes are not required for certification. Please complete the Basic Studio class before registering for advanced studio classes.

Character Generator

Prerequisite: MetroEast Orientation
Learn to create titles for studio productions. This equipment allows you to type pages of information, such as the program title, guest names and credits, for live and recorded studio programs. In this one-part workshop, you'll learn to type text, choose font styles and colors, and add graphic elements to pages, then recall them as needed during a production. The CG is for studio work only, and is used in both Studio A and Studio B.

Field Camcorder - Part 1

Prerequisite: MetroEast Orientation
Learn the basic skills of single camera field production in this 2 part workshop. Participants will practice Panasonic P2 Camera operation. Sign up for both 1 & 2. Part 1: Camera operation and shooting.

Intro to Studio B

Prerequisite: MetroEast Orientation
Planning a production that doesn't require much space? Looking to make a show without needing a large crew? Then the new Studio B is for you. Students will learn to operate the 3 remote control cameras, compact switcher and audio mixer during this 2-part class. Register for both parts.
Location: Studio B
